Dalit Mahila Garima Yatra

All India Dalit Mahila Adhikar Manch

The violent nexus of caste and patriarchy has once again raised its hood in the form of increasing sexual violence against Dalit women in Haryana. Abused and broken, the survivors are still waiting for justice. The rest of India shamelessly continues to debate whether this is a caste issue? A gender issue? A moral issue? A chowmein issue? A political issue?

Clearly something has gone horribly wrong in our human consciousness if we as a country remain silent to such horrifying acts of violence committed against our young women.

While the legal battles and quest for justice will continue for the survivors and their families -All India Dalit Mahila Adhikar Manch with associates and friends have planned to organize State level Karwan in Haryana to build pressure on authorities to enforce the law and protect Dalit women.

Dalit Mahila Garima Yatra will commence on Nov.1, 2012 in front of Dr. B.R Ambedkar statue in Panipat, Haryana.

The ‘karwan’ will cover nine districts across the state. Village meetings, rally, candle vigils, cultural programmes, press conference, survivors conference, pamphlet distribution are few of the planned activities. Petitions will be submitted to the District Collector in each district.

All India Dalit Mahila Adhikar Manch calls for a Nation wide protest in solidarity with the survivors of rape in Haryana.

You are requested to organize a public meeting/visible protest in your city and submit a memorandum to your Governor in the State. In addition, another major effort – A Campaign to end Untouchability and Atrocities is gaining momentum across the country to culminate in a Dalit-Adivasi Sammelan on Nov. 23 in Delhi.
